Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
Leela Guide is a free, non-commercial personal project. This policy explains what the website (leela.guide) and the game (play.leela.guide) collect, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: ask@leela.guide.
The short version
- We don't read your conversations. They are used only to run your game.
- Your data is never sold, there are no ads, and your conversations are not used to train AI models.
- Your question, your conversations and My Story are stored encrypted.
- There are no analytics, no tracking and no cookies.
- You can delete a game or your whole account at any time.
What we collect
What you give us
- Your question and your games. The question you bring to a game, your dice rolls and moves, your messages and your guide's replies. For long conversations, a short summary written by the AI may be stored too, so your guide can remember earlier parts.
- An account (optional). Your email address, your password (stored only as a one-way hash) and an optional display name.
- My Story (optional, accounts only). A name, your background, your current situation, your philosophical or spiritual beliefs, and how you would like your guide to talk with you. Beliefs are sensitive information: share only what you are comfortable with. You can clear My Story at any time.
What is collected automatically
- A session ID. A random ID stored in your browser links your guest games to it. Your browser's user agent is stored with it.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting providers receive your IP address and basic request details when you visit.
How we use it
- To run your game: save your games, show your history and write your guide's replies.
- To send emails: confirming your address, resetting your password, a reminder when a game you haven't finished has been waiting for a few days, news and updates about important changes such as changes to this policy, and a warning before an unused account is deleted. You can turn off reminders, news and updates.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We don't read your conversations. Your question, your conversations and My Story are used only to run the game for you. They are never sold, never used for advertising and never used to train AI models.
Why we may use it
- Your games and your account: to provide the service you asked for.
- My Story: your own choice to share it. You can clear it at any time.
- Keeping the service secure, game reminders, news and updates, and account deletion warnings: our legitimate interest in running a small free service well. You can turn reminders, news and updates off.
Your AI guide (Anthropic)
To write each reply, the game sends Anthropic, the maker of Claude, the conversation so far, your question and game history, a summary of earlier parts of long conversations and, if you are signed in and have filled it in, My Story. Anthropic's terms for this service do not allow it to train models on this data, and it keeps the data only for a limited time.
No analytics or tracking
Leela Guide doesn't use analytics tools, tracking pixels or cookies, and doesn't follow what you do across visits or other sites. How the game is used is seen only through its own records, counted without reading their content, for example how many games are started or finished.
Who else handles your data
These services run Leela Guide. They process data for us under their own data processing terms.
- Anthropic (United States): writes your guide's replies.
- Railway (servers in the Netherlands): runs the game's server and database.
- Google Cloud (Netherlands): stores encrypted backups.
- Vercel (United States, worldwide network): delivers the website and game pages.
- Resend (United States): sends emails.
- Cloudflare (United States): runs our domain and forwards mail sent to ask@leela.guide.
Where your data is processed
Your games and your account are stored in the Netherlands (EU). To write replies, conversation data is sent to Anthropic in the United States, and emails go through Resend in the United States. If you live in the EU or the UK, this means some of your data is processed in the United States.
What is stored in your browser
We don't use cookies, and the website stores nothing in your browser. The game uses your browser's own storage to keep:
- a session ID that links your guest games to this browser;
- your sign-in, only for the open tab: it is cleared when you close the tab;
- your theme, language and animation preferences;
- that you confirmed you are 18 or older.
The website and the game both remove anything earlier versions stored for analytics. Clearing your browser storage removes the items above, but it doesn't delete data already saved on our server.
How we protect it
- All connections are encrypted (HTTPS).
- Your email address, display name, My Story, questions, conversations and summaries are encrypted in our database. The keys are kept separately from the database, and backups are encrypted too.
- Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. Sign-ins expire quickly, and repeated sign-in attempts are limited.
- This is not end-to-end encryption: the game's server decrypts content to show it to you and to send it to Anthropic for your guide's replies.
How long we keep it
- Guest games: deleted 12 months after your last activity.
- Accounts: deleted after 24 months without signing in. We email you 30 days before.
- When you delete a game or your account, it is removed from our database straight away. Backups keep a copy until they expire.
- Emails: Resend keeps delivery logs for a limited time.
Your choices and rights
- Delete a game: My Games → Archive → Delete.
- Delete your account: My Story → Delete account.
- Stop emails: every reminder and every news or update email has links to stop that kind of email or all of them, and My Story has a switch for each. Emails you ask for, like a password reset, and the warning before an unused account is deleted are always sent.
- See or correct your data: your games and My Story are in the app. For anything else, write to ask@leela.guide.
Depending on where you live, for example in the EU or the UK, you may also have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy of it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Write to ask@leela.guide and we will reply within a month.
Age
Leela Guide is for adults: you must be 18 or older to use it. If you believe someone under 18 has used it, write to us and we will delete their data.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change matters, we also email account holders before it takes effect, unless they have turned off news and updates.
